From the Times UK: Happy, happy, happy office workers in Fwance? Just
dont make faux pas in Fwench office.

"Want to work in France? Then you will need to mind your language and
the way you look. Your hair, clothes and make-up must be immaculate,
even after a long, hard day. Your self-control should be total and
your conversation will avoid all subjects likely to rile colleagues,
such as love, money and your personal problems....

.....You may have thought of the French as a nation dedicated to the
good things in life. But in Caracalla’s view fun doesn’t really enter
the equation, at least not in the workplace..."

"At 7pm, for instance, a self-respecting Frenchwoman must look and
sound as fresh as if she had just showered in the morning, Caracalla
says. Her appearance will be flawless, her conduct exemplary."

This applies to any self-respecting Englishwoman too.

But French offices probably don't have a tea-lady with a trolley at
10.30am and 3pm, so we win.

Sounds like the way professionals in an office *should* behave...

Too many Yanks go into work with the "it's all about ME" attitude,
especially females. But then American women are pretty generally spoiled
*rotten*...

We get some French newscasts on the cableteevee here in Chicago, I am always
mightily impressed by the demeanour of the newscasters, especially the
women. They are professional, generally fairly un-emotional, do night act
like chattering schoolgirls who want to be your "friend".. Here in the
states they'd be unemployable...too "cool".

IME they don't but some Italian offices do.

Of course you do get things like cuisse de canard and cassoulet for lunch
in
French factory canteens.
