Orlando, FL: Know of cheap/free convention center parking?
I'll be attending a conference next week at the Orange County Convention
Center in Orlando, Florida. I'm advised that parking is $10 a day. I'm cheap and I don't want to pay $10/day on top of my rental car. Are there cheaper alternatives? I do not mind a walk (a mile or so.) Thanks! |

No. However, just down the road is a Bennigans which has a rather healty parking lot. An easier walk though is in the other direction towards a shopping center (Mercado or something like that) with again fairly ample parking. Technically they all have those "can't park here unless yer shopping here" kinda signs but I don't know how closely they watch. If ya got a mind to risk a tow, the Peabody across the street has some self parking but they watch it pretty close when conventions are busy. There's a bus that runs up and down International Drive and you could try to park all the way up at Belt Outlet Mall and take the bus. I think it's a flat fee for as many rides as ya want. |

Particularly with a rental car, you could park right across the street in the Peabody Hotel's guest parking areas. To make it look good, just walk into the hotel and through the lobby before exiting and croosing the street to either convention hall. Or by a newspaper, or a coffee, if you're struck by pangs of honesty. 8 BTW, if your rental is from Hertz, there's a Hertz counter in the Peabody, so parking there is somewhat legit. -- Larry (posting this from the Peabody right now, with a rental car in the lot...) |
