Hong Kong, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur or Singapore

I'm travelling to Australia from Europe via Asia. This is my first time
travelling outside of Europe and just want to get people's opinion as
which of the above Asian cities should I visit on my 3-days stop over?

Hong Kong and Singapore are quite westernized. HK has unique Chinese
characters in a western world. Singapore is very multi-cultural, but
is politically controlled and rather boring. Bangkok gets a lot of
tourists but retains a Thai culture. KL don't get as much tourists.

So PeterL which city would you pick? From what you wrote, looks like
you are leaning towards either Hong Kong or Bangkok?

No experience here regarding KL. I think Hong Kong is the way to go in that
you have never been to any of the above.

I have been to all cities several times and lived in Bangkok for nine
months. These are all great destinations. HK remains my favorite
international destination, even if things are more expensive than BKK or KL.
Perhaps it depends on what interests you. I happen to love everything about
HK, including the main island, HK, and surrounding islands. Whatever you
want - HK has it. One is also close to Macau, New Terriotories and China
outside the SAR. Cantonese food is my favorite - perhaps not yours.
Perhaps BKK would be my second choice but Singapore is also a great city.

you love Hong Kong. I guess what I'm looking for is a good "asian"
experience, whatever that may be or if that can even be defined...It's
just that I won't be making this sort of trip again in a long time and
just want to get the most of my trip in that "part" of the world.

Impossible to answer. I like each city for different reasons. But you
are right HK and Bangkok are the two I would pick.

Visit Bangkok (preferably) or Singapore. I would skip HK - too crowded
and not that many things to see.
