Rome Hotel recommendation help

http://www.lancelothotel.com Hotel Lancelot I've stayed at the Lancelot, and like it a lot. Very friendly staff, good rooms, great breakfast, very quiet street, quite inexpensive. The only drawback is its location. Although it's only about 2 blocks from the Colosseum, it's on the FAR side of the Colosseum, and the Colosseum itself is on the far side of the sights you want to see. So even though you are right next to the Colosseum and the Forum, you are some distance from other tourist sites -- the Vatican, Campo de' Fiori, Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Borghese, Piazza Navona, etc. ON THE OTHER HAND, Rome is a great city to walk in, and staying at the Lancelot, I walked all the way to the Vatican and back three days in a row, walked from the Borghese to the Spanish Steps and then to the Trevi Fountain and back to the hotel, walked from the hotel to Campo de' Fiori and on to Piazza Navona and back to the hotel. So if you enjoy walking, as I do, it's no problem. It's also a couple of blocks from the Colosseo subway station, and not TOO far from the Vittorio Emanuele area which is a central transportation hub. If you stay there, try Le Naumachie restaurant, which is on a side street between the hotel and the Colosseum. |

no Spanish Steps is much nicer. has the Metro, has the best shopping, is
the safest area of the town, no cars are allowed in most roads there, it has a huge park, Villa Borghese. Trastevere or the Piazza Navona are better only for nightlife. Trastevere or the Piazza Navona are better only for nightlife. spanish steps is the single most overrated tourist stop in all of Italy -- the restaurants in the area range from tourist trap creepy to overpriced and expensive shops --and it is filled with tourists milling around wondering what on earth to do there -- it IS convenient to the subway -- but the subway is not convenient for most tourism in Rome -- but to each his own -- just wouldn't want a novice to think this was a fabulous area to stay [or at least that everyone thinks it is] I have stayed in this area, in Piazza Navona area and in Trastevere and the later two are far superior for getting to tourist sites and for local amenities -- YMMV Jenn wrote: In article , tottidelpiero wrote: you should get an hotel in the Spanish steps area strongly disagree -- Trastevere or the Piazza Navona area are both better spots for tourists IMHO -- spunge411 wrote: Please if you have any comments about any or all of these hotels in rome, it would greatly be appreciated. hows the location? setting? service? quality?..etc.. or any personal experiences thanks sanjay http://www.hotelvillaborghese.it/index.lasso Villa Borghese http://www.hotelbritannia.it Hotel Britannia http://www.hotelregno.com Hotel Regno http://www.starhotels.com/default.as...ar&menuid=1274 Hotel Michaelangelo http://www.hotelmiami.com/ Hotel Miami http://romeby.com/residenzafrattina/index.html Frattina http://romeby.com/coronari/index.html Hotel Coronari http://romeby.com/tiziano/index.html Hotel Tiziano http://www.hoteldesartistes.com Hotel Des Artistes http://www.boscolohotels.com/hotel.cfm?SectionId=606 Hotel Grand Palace http://www.hotelmorgana.com Hotel Morgana http://www.cavalieri.it/hotel/ Hotel Cavalieri http://www.hotelsanfrancesco.net Hotel San Francesco http://www.lancelothotel.com Hotel Lancelot http://www.htlsantamaria.com/ Hotel Santa Maria http://romeby.com/hotelatlantegarden/ Hotel Atlane Garden http://www.ambrapalacehotel.com/index_eng.asp Hotel Ambra Palace |

Trastevere or the Piazza Navona are better only for nightlife. That's all a matter of opinion. I'm not big on Trastevere, but I agree with Jenn, and greatly prefer the Piazza Navona area to the Spanish Steps. And nightlife is not one of my interests. -- Ken Blake Please reply to the newsgroup Jenn wrote: In article , tottidelpiero wrote: you should get an hotel in the Spanish steps area strongly disagree -- Trastevere or the Piazza Navona area are both better spots for tourists IMHO -- spunge411 wrote: Please if you have any comments about any or all of these hotels in rome, it would greatly be appreciated. hows the location? setting? service? quality?..etc.. or any personal experiences thanks sanjay http://www.hotelvillaborghese.it/index.lasso Villa Borghese http://www.hotelbritannia.it Hotel Britannia http://www.hotelregno.com Hotel Regno http://www.starhotels.com/default.as...sec=star&menui d=1274 Hotel Michaelangelo http://www.hotelmiami.com/ Hotel Miami http://romeby.com/residenzafrattina/index.html Frattina http://romeby.com/coronari/index.html Hotel Coronari http://romeby.com/tiziano/index.html Hotel Tiziano http://www.hoteldesartistes.com Hotel Des Artistes http://www.boscolohotels.com/hotel.cfm?SectionId=606 Hotel Grand Palace http://www.hotelmorgana.com Hotel Morgana http://www.cavalieri.it/hotel/ Hotel Cavalieri http://www.hotelsanfrancesco.net Hotel San Francesco http://www.lancelothotel.com Hotel Lancelot http://www.htlsantamaria.com/ Hotel Santa Maria http://romeby.com/hotelatlantegarden/ Hotel Atlane Garden http://www.ambrapalacehotel.com/index_eng.asp Hotel Ambra Palace |

Trastevere or the Piazza Navona are better only for nightlife. Nonsense. If you stay near the Spanish Steps, you'll find the metro very convenient. If you stay near Piazza Navona, you won't miss the metro because you can walk nearly everywhere. As for traffic, the two areas are about equal. As for nightlife, I never saw any near Piazza Navona, because I wasn't looking for it. As for safety, I walk all the time in the Piazza Navona area and have never felt any risk. ----------- Barbara Vaughan My email address is my first initial followed by my surname at libero dot it I answer travel questions only in the newsgroup |
