Nepal, India, Hongkong, Lao, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Thai postal service is
reknowned for being efficient. Does not imply that it can´t fail at times.

You have some statistics to support your idea about the Thai Mail being more
reliable over the above mentioned countries?

Statistics, no, but it is common knowledge, corroborated by experience,
among people who travel or live in those countries that the Thai postal
service is rather dependable. If u had lived or travelled in India or Nepal
or Lao or Vietnam or Cambodia u would know what I am referring to.

If u are interested in statistics I suggest you google after it. There may
be some somewhere, and if u prefer to mail your parcels from Kathmandu (if u
ever get further than Pattaya) or Phnom Penh or Saigon , u are welcome it is
up to you.

I suppose you know as well as anyone else that your suggestion is nonsense.
Groundless comparisons should be affirmed by groundless searches.

Groundless comparisons should be affirmed by groundless searches.

Now, that is pure nonsense, though it may appear as profound philosophy in
Pattaya expat bar, u really should try to get out of there.

During the 10 years that I lived there, I found the Hong Kong postal
service to one of the most reliable, fastest and best value for money
that I've encountered anywhere.

It is vicious when folks run out of arguments and still they have to spill
out a few of them.

I fully agree. Over the years, I have sent hundreds of postcards and letters
from Thailand and they all arrived safely in Europe after 2 (!) to 7 days.
Postcards from Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Vietnam
sometimes arrived (mostly after 14 days) and some never arrived at their
destinations.

You always ask the receiver whether the mail has arrived from Thailand and
after the positive answer you always get, you inquire the arrival date which
you do compare to the date of mailing (whether you have a comprehensive
database for this or you check the date on the envelope or both). Actually
we don't have any data on comparative reliability between Thailand and
*other* countries. I have been returned at least twice a letter by the Thai
Post which I have send by an explicit and valid address. Misbehaviour like
this has happened for domestic mail in Finland too.

Markku: Where have u been in Asia? How long? Have u ever been out of the
expat bars in Pattaya?

I have been returned at least twice a letter by the Thai
Post which I have send by an explicit and valid address.

And, then, there was probably an explanation. Not enough stamps? Unreadable
address? There are countries in Asia where you might not have got the letter
in return. Nepal´s postal system is pretty schetchy, to the extent that
friends living in Nepal have at times asked us to mail their letters in
Bangkok because the Thai postal service is regarded as comparatively
reliable.

My mother loves receiving postcards and I regularly send her one. I always
put the date on my postcards, and my mother puts the date on which she
receives it on the card. Complicado, no?
