I wouldn't let you onto the plane either...that is, until you got it
changed to *Bliar* lied...

Huh? *(I thought your former PM's name WAS "Blair"!) *

*sigh* *It's a running joke in the UK to reverse the "a" and "i" in
Blair's name to get "Bliar." *You really need this explained?

....And you Brits accuse US of being insular! *Not everyone lives in the
UK - although an English-language newsgroup, we seem to have posters
here from all over the world, and not all of us pay that much attention
to the politics of other countries. *(You guys wouldn't find our
election process of much interest either, if it weren't for the
unmitigated disaster of our current "leadership"!)- Hide quoted text -

Actually, many people all around the world have been closely following
the current US presidential election process. They are fascinated
that a black and a woman are vying for the US Presidency...

Bush hardly figures on the radar of anyone, his lame - duck presidency
is effectively over...

It's been replaced by Brown - a joke that never ran.

Boredom Clown.

What *exactly* is the UK looking for in leadership..?

Maybe something better than we have here in the U.S.? *(At lease, not
a "rubber stamp" for the U.S. president - Bush may not recognize the
concept of "sovereign nations", but the U.K. has been in existence
longer than the U.S.)

The United Kingdom, in its current status, has only been in existence
since 1927.

What state was it in before, Oklahoma?- Hide quoted text -

You mean the state where's it legal to marry 14 year - old child
brides - like YOU did...???

indeed. He seems a dull clever man who can do the job. Several events
outside his control have overtaken him and now everybody bays for his
blood. No doubt he will be replaced by PR man David Hamilton, who so far
seems shallow. They say you get the politicians you deserve.

he did cock up the 10p tax rate though and it is beginning to look as if
he
doesn't listen much

He is scum. Just one, but a very important example: signing the EU treaty,
with no referendum.
Also, air passenger duty.

I live in the USA. I travel. I read this newsgroup. So does EVG
(well, her travelling days might be behind her now, as the transition
to a dollar-based fixed income doesn't bode well for travelling to
euro-economy countries these days). I've seen numerous references to
"Bliar" over the last few years. It isn't *that* big of a cultural
difference, especially to well-read native-English speakers.

Many of us write it as B'liar

....Which would make it clear it was a play on words, not a simple
mis-spelling. I try not to notice mis-spellings and mistakes in
grammar, here, since English is a second or third language for many of
our posters. (Although there seem to be plenty of oddities in
spelling and grammar among the native English-speakers, too.)

I understoon it when I first read it.
Where you not able to get the word "liar" out of the spelling?

Of course, cretin! (However, whether or not it was deliberate or a typo
remained in doubt - particularly when I had only seen the sentence in
which it appeared applied to Bush.)

Try it and see. Make sure you have clothes in your carry-on
suitable for an overnight stay in the local cells.

Why would a shirt saying your are not a terrorist land you in jail?

Ask the TSA; many things I would consider merely silly or
funny have landed people in jail already, or severely
disrupted their travel plans.

Wasn't it in 1931 ? I think 1927 triggered the changes which becase
effective in 1931. (when UK relinquished control over canada, new
zealand and australia)

Bliar came out about the same time as the "sexed up dossier" just before
the war, when it became apparant to the whole world that Bliar and Bush
were lying to justify some war. The USA media took conscious decision to
NOT cover this and continued to support Bush. The democrats followed the
media decisions and did not criticise Bush.

Bush doesn't hold all of the blame for this. Congress approved funding.

Very lame excuse. The bills are worded with very nice words such as
"Bill to provide sufficent budget to feed the troups in Iraq". Anyone
who votes against it will be labeled duriong elections as "he voted
against feeding our troups in Iraq".

It doesn't matter that the bill as a little appendix that has a national
identity card in it, if you vote "NO" to it, you are labeled as an anti
patriotic person who voted against giving food to the troups.

But yes, if the democrats had had a leader during those 8 years, they
would have actually opposed Bush and worked with the media to expose his
lies. They didn't. Both the media and the democratic party failed the
USA during 8 years.

Outside the USA, people do not understand how an opposition party can be
without a leader except for 2/3 months before an election.
