Default How do you Carry your Stuff on Shore?

My wife and I will be leaving on our first cruise on November 17. We are
going on the Holiday out of New Orleans on a 5 night cruise to Cozumel and
Playa del Carmen. Some of the information on this news group has been very
helpful. I do have a question someone here may be able to help out with.
How should we carry our stuff when we go on a shore excursion? Are there
lockers when diving / snorkeling? Do you carry water proof pouches for your
money and ID?

Thanks for your understanding and help.

I usually only take as much money as I think I'll need, plus the
ID and a single credit card. I put it in a small fanny pack. If
I'm going to be snorkling or diving, I put it in a zipped lock bag
and into a zip-up pocket of my shorts (I go in the water in them,
they are quick-dry). Even if they($ and CC) get wet it's no big deal.

Puh-leeze, Jenn, I HOPE you mean WAIST pack. The other is not a pretty
image!

Actually, my LB has a thin waist pack that she wears when ever we travel. Even
with all her neccessary goodies in it is is pretty thin. She likes the idea of
it being tied on and therefore very hard to set down and lose. Also, when we
travel in Europe in the Winter it is concealed underneath her parka and thus
very safe. Works out much better than a purse.

I love my water wallet. It's a plastic container that goes around my
neck like a necklace. Mine is very small and slim. It can only fit
my cruise card, some cash or travellers checks and maybe a credit
card. I also use it onboard.

My sister's is wider and she can fit a pack of cigarettes in there.

Both are totally waterproof. If the seal gets worn, it will start
leaking slightly. So replace it if that starts to happen. You can
usually find these in the sundry shops on a ship or in a beach resort
area.

If I'm only carrying a few dollars and the ships ID card, then the money
goes in a empty film canister and the ID if it's plastic doesn't go in
anything, both in a zippered pocket.

If I'm carrying a wallet and other stuff, then they will go in zip loc bags
in one of the waterproof things others have mentioned, available at most
outdoors places, dive shops, etc for very little money.

Some places have lockers, but I've never used them.

Go to any local dive shop in your area. They all have the water
wallets like Pea was talking about and waterproof boxes you wear around
your neck. The strings are adjustable and should they come off your
neck they float to the surface. I've never had one come off. The one I
have fits my room key, cash, credit card, smokes and lighter. These
boxes come in various sizes (depending how much you want to bring).
They range in price from about $5 - $15. Just get a good one with a
good seal and clasp. Using this on shore (worn under your shirt) also
reduces your risk of a pick pocket following you (no bulky wallet is
visible). These boxes also keep everything dry should you encounter
any tropical downpours that come out of now where.
