Gay culture flourishes in Helsinki
Finnish capital said to have most vibrant gay scene in Nordic region

Although Finnish culture has not been traditionally seen as the
most tolerant in the world, a thriving gay scene has developed in
Helsinki in recent years. The city already has eight restaurants with a
predominantly gay clientele, as well as one gay sauna.

"Gay culture here is alive, and there are many things going on. Helsinki
is definitely number one, and a forerunner in the Nordic Countries. The
next places worth going to are Amsterdam and London", says Riitta
Suominen, head of the DTM restaurant.
DTM is the largest gay club in the Nordic Countries, with two
separate night clubs and a gay cafe.
"Take the seven-day Pride event, for instance; nothing like that
is even arranged for heterosexuals! Then we had 1,000 people in the
restaurant every evening."

[I find the suggestion of intolerance at the opening a little odd. I'd
never thought of it as a particularly _intolerant_ country. Maybe there
are more MarKKKu's there than I thought.]

DTM? DFM? What's the difference?

One doesn't thing that AIDS is predominantly a gay men's problem
presumably.

The NHS seems to think it is gay men and African communities who are most at
risk of HIV, according to the BBC London local news this evening.

In the UK, presumably. The worldwide statistics speak painfully and
clearly for themselves. DFM's claim that "it's by and large a disease
that affects homosexual men, plus hard drugs users, but that's well
known" is so off the mark, it would be laughable, if it wasn't such a
sad and serious subject.

Days later, this is still sitting with you?

My my, what a serious subject it is when you decide to have a hissy
fit. Oddly, no one else argues that point, but you consider it
"laughable".

Been for a check wassup lately?
