Default airport perimeter security vs pasenger security

If you have not by now seen the video of the guy in the stolen black
pickup speeding by at least 8 loaded aircraft on the taxi way atthe
Phoenix airport, go do a yahoo or google search, this happened Jun3 30 2005

the airports now almost strip search pasengers but someone in a "toyota"
pickup was able to knock down three fences with ease.

If the guy had a rifle or even a pistol and fired shots at aircraft,
that would be really bad news....

now, I am seing cement bariers placed inside the fence at certain
locations...

5 days after the June 30 incident there was another where a guy dropped
of a passenger at one of the terminals was chased by police and shot
himself on one of the airpor roadways.

How would this have been worse than having a rifle or pistol landside?
