Default NZ PAYG Sim card?

Hi,

I plan to travel to NZ later this year and would like to purchase a NZ
PAYG sim card before I leave. Can anyone point me to a source for
these please? Not too bothered which network.

There is just one gsm network (Vodafone NZ) and one CDMA network (Telecom
NZ). Buy the sim card when you arrive - cheap and readily available
everywhere! To buy from the rip-off merchants who flog them online will cost
you 2x to 3x times the real price.

I bought a Vodafone SIM card at Auckland International Airport when I
arrived and gave it back when I left. It was not a PAYG card - it cost
NZ$4.50 per week to hire which wasn't much and with a credit card and
email account they send you the bills weekly and by email. The
convenience of buying and leaving it at the airport was too great to
refuse.

If you do go for a PAYG and if you have a choice, choose Telecom rather
than Vodafone because their coverage is better. In particular, only
Telecom covers Stewart Island.

But buy once you get there - don't bother with the Net. They are more
expensive.

Telecom NZ does NOT offer a gsm service - just CDMA!!

There's only one gsm provider Vodafone NZ.

3G service is available also, introduced in November 2004. - Telecom's 3G
network is CDMA EV-DO based.
