You can't just judge musicians as harmless. This one time at band
camp...

Al Queda trained 19 men to be pilots. They can certainly train 18 to
play musical instruments.

Yeah, but these were professional musicians with a searchable track
record. It takes years of work and native talent to become a genuine
musician and years more to actually be good enough that people pay to
fly you across country to perform. Anyone can learn to fly a plane in
a few days or weeks if all you intend is to crash it into somthing.
Those 19 were hardly "pilots" in the professional sense any more than
I am a professional musician even though at one time I accumulated 11
years of music training in both voice and percussion.

Music is an art that takes talent, you can't just point at some eager
volunteers and say "You and you...form a musical group, spend 10 years
getting good and then we'll see if we can get you hired to fly across
country so you can blow up a plane."

Would have been easier to traint hem to be stockbrokersd, turn them
loose, let them get rich and *buy* an airline and then crash its
planes. Getting rich usually just takes a lifetime of hard work and
devotion, you don't necesarily need talent..ruthlessness helps but
terrorists would have that in long supply.

On the other hand, it does give a new meaning to the genre of "Death
Metal music"....grin
