The prior plan was to take a water bottle filled with vodka to make the
flight a bit more enjoyable, but due to re-consideration and recent events,
I have decided not to take the vodka.

I will have my laptop with me on the plane so that should be good to watch a
movie, but what about the other 10 hours? How do you all pass time in the
plane on long flights, other than books? I'll be flying ATA - I have heard
that on long flights there is entertainment such as movie showings, gps
tracking to watch the progress of your flight, etc. Does ATA offer these?
What could be some creative ways to pass the time?

I usually take a few magazines and or a good book. Works for me.

6 pints of strong lager in the Airport Bar, 4 or 5 large whiskeys on the
plane, some earplugs and eyeshades.
Oh bring some water as you will wake up dehydrated.

And make sure that your drunkenness does not show as you board, or
they'll kick you off the plane....

Well, my flight on July 3rd went smoothly. I didn't bring my own vodka like
I planned. After the LGA to SFO flight I had a couple beers and then got
back on the plane to complete the leg to HNL. The 12 1/2 hour flight was not
too bad, they had some movies and cartoons on. All in all, I made it out
here and thats what counts!

Best thing for a flight that long is to take some Unisom (or Tylenol PM,
or Nyquil), put in some earplugs if you need them, put on a mask to
block out the light if you need it, and sleep your way to your destination.

The airlines have made it very unpleasant to fly conscious in coach.

I get a prescription for Ambien from the doctor. Beats the hell out of
those OTC meds, and the sleep is restful. I don't wake up felling
drowsy, either - it's one of the better features of Ambien.
