Default QE2 Going Out Of Service

The QE2 will be taken out of sevice in 2004, so book now (like we did) if you
want a last chance spin on the old classic.

Bullship.

However, I wouldn't bet on a long life in the fleet for Caronia, especially
after the Queen Victoria is delivered. (no secret here)

Cunard has too much emotional and financial investment in the QE2 to let her
go next year. She'll be cruising out of Southhampton for a few years.

Hi Mark,

In May, Cunard agreed to sell the Caronia to Saga at the end of 2004.
Of course, it is my understanding that Saga is now for sale so who
knows how this deal will turn out.

Best regards,
Ray

Thanks for reminding me!

I now recall hearing of that and realizing that she'll rejoin her old
fleetmate - the ex-Sagafjord.

I believe Caronia was sold to Saga in May this year, but leased back to
Cunard until 2005.
Saga is for sale, as a whole, but the cruise division is only a small
part of their operations.

Where did you get your information?

My understanding is that QE2 is to cruise from Southampton from 2004
onwards, having given up transatlantics to QM2. A refit is also
planned for 2004 which suggests at leaste a couple more years of
service.

People have suggested that QE2 will be retired between 2005 and 2010.
Solas regulations and old age will make it increasingly expensive to
keep QE2 in service. The price premium QE2 can obtain will also be
reduced as pasengers demand more modern facilities (such as
balconies).

I hope Cunard (CCL) have not decided to retire QE2 early as I was
hoping to get a few more cruises on her.

I was planning to fly Concorde back from New York in June next year,
and that has gone. I hope they are not taking QE2 away as well.

Best wishes, Stephen.

Can't be. One has waxed, the other may not have.
