Kamloops area info request

The obvious route from Kamloops to Merritt is route 5.

However, my AAA map shows a parallel route 5A to the east. At the
Kamloops end it's a very thin black line.

Is it a worthwhile alternative if I have time to spare?

I am going from memory here. Years ago before the Coquihala Highway was
extended to Kamloops it began in Merritt. I recollect that the drive from
Kamloops to Merritt was via a rolling, circuitous route [likely 5 A] that
skirted Nicola Lake in the valley. It was pretty as I recall but again,
that was some time ago. We stick to the freeway/highway now.
