Default Why do so many people sleep in airports?

On the news, I keep seeing people sleeping in the terminal because of
weather or whatever reason.

If you can't get a flight, why not just go stay in a hotel?

When we were in MIlan and there was a strike (they strike all the time
in Italy), we hailed a taxi to a hotel, stayed over and left the next
day.

Try getting a hotel room for a reasonable price when a major airport is
closed due to the weather...

You can always get the Presidential Suite at the airport Hilton.

Plus if you're on some sort of tight schedule you may wish to get the 6:00am
flight out. With a 3 hour international check-in time these days a hotel
may not be practical.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe.
Barbeques on fire by the chalets past the castle headland
I watched the gift shops glitter in the darkness off the Newborough gate
All these moments will be lost in time, like icecream on the beach
Time for tea.

same happened to us at venice airport approx 3 years ago, and i've not
been silent about it when somebody asks me how i like it

here is the reason air italia chumps (aka paying customers) leave the
airport at venice for nearby available hotel-motel when there is a
"strike"

by the way: they have a euphemism word for "strike"--you have to be
there to apprecdiate the absurdness of the f.u. employees who sorta
get ****ed if they hear that awesome "strike" vword

the damne venice airport (nevermind their pizza ain't bad) closes at
night, so ya aren't allowed to wait in a chair/laying on a floor (and
no compensation for your being f'ed)

i'll personally not be returning, but my wife nevertheless luvs
literally cool, sunny italy's well publicized scenery and is going
next year ("if there is a next year," a la don phardo)

hey, despite being well-cautioned, i got my pocket picked waiting on a
bus in napoli/naples, so if ya don't like my cruddy kvetching, i don't
like you either

Money? Bear in mind that in these times of budget air travel, a hotel
could cost you a lot more than the flight did.
Secondly, your flight may not have been cancelled but delayed
indefinitely, meaning you have to hang around in case it - or a
substitute flight- suddenly materializes. If you miss it, that's your
fault. This happened to me in Algiers when the AF flight from Paris was
cancelled. After hanging around for ages, the AF agent suddenly appeared
and announced we had seats on an Air Algerie flight, and then it was a
mad scramble to get to the plane on time- I didn't even have time to
change my money back.
Thirdly, if you're on an international transit, you may not have a visa
for the country where you happened to be stranded, and can't leave the
security area.

It's just that I've never known anyone that's ever had to sleep in an
airport. I was just curious. Thanks.
