For one thing, they are generally not overrun with thousands of day trippers as
unfortunately Chichen Itza is.

They are from two separate civilizations, or eras, of Mayan development.
Since the Mayans practiced slash and burn agriculture in tropical forests,
the land depleted eventually and there was a migration northward. The final
stage of Mayan pre-Columbian civilization was in Yucatan. The architecture
is distinct from that of Copan and Tikal and the ruins in El Salvador.
