True, but there are too many "sights" that require walking - museums,
zoos, etc.

What you need, is a strong young travelling companion, and a portable
wheelchair.

Right! (Any volunteers?)

A private driver can be nice, too.

Even French ones?

Do they even speak comprehensible English or German? 8-)

That's the case for any European transfer flight I've been on...

Not for much longer at CDG, however (if you're changing from one Air
France flight to another). Already you can get from 2F (national) to 2E
(international) without going through security. The last time I did it
it worked in that direction, but not in the other. However, they're
working on it, and some time later this year it will be possible from
2E to 2F. 2E seems to be mainly flights to the Far East and South
America. I'm not sure where the AF flights to the USA go from (I try to
avoid CDG for them, as Amsterdam is usually nicer)..

One time when I was in Paris we arranged for a tour that included a boat
ride and a tour by van for the five of us. Our tour guide on the boat
gave her spiel in French, English, German, Spanish and Italian. Her
English was excellent. The van driver spoke excellent English, and he
was a good driver. He felt quite safe and enjoyed the tour.

Speak up, gRunge!

Since gRunge is neither strong nor young, and hardly to be desired as a
companion ..... (Did someone mention "fates worse than death" ?????) ;-)

not in copenhagen the last two times I transferred there

It's to stop passengesr arriving from countries with inferior security
smuggling explosives and weapons into the airport.

And to **** off many buying duty free (liquids) at airports outside
Europe...

D

That is most certainly true. If you have a connecting onward flight, you
have to make sure when you buy duty free liquids that the vendor seals
them in a tamper-free bag good enough to satisfy security checks.
There is a way round it - you go out of the security area at the
transfer airport, and check the stuff in for the second leg.

Second bag? What's that? 8-). However, I just don't buy duty- free stuff
anyway. Just more to lug around,

In my case, I had a small rucksack as hand luggage that I could spare. I
wrapped the bottle in a newspaper, walked out of security to the
departure level, checked the rucksack in as checked baggage, and walked
back through security. I had no idea if it would work, but better than
not trying.
Why duty-free? Well, where else can you buy a bottle of Mauritius rum?

That's not enough, I'm afraid. These sealed bags will only be accepted
from a limited number of airports outside the EEA- and exclude any in
India, as I found out...

There is a way round it - you go out of the security area at the
transfer airport, and check the stuff in for the second leg.

Rarely practical though...

I always did it when I flew from Toulouse to Schiphol via Gatwick.

I would challenge you to do it on most of the connections I've had
recently, which are not only admirably short but usually limit me to one
check-in bag...

You have good point there, unfortunately European airlines have started
introducing this stupid rule.

A 10 quid bottle of Bombay Sapphire isn't worth it.

I've changed in Amsterdam a time or two, but I like Copenhagen. A couple
years ago I used CPH to avoid Heathrow/ Gatwick on my way to Aberdeen.

The French people I know speak and write better English than you. :-)

Never under estimate the French. Americans would do well to never
under estimate foreigners in general.

Oh, I don't underestimate them, but I do admit to judging those I've met
more than a few of, which is is unfair but human 8-). Obviously you have
met different examples of the French than I have, as relates to English
facility.

Virgin sacrifice?

At eighty-three? God forbid! (Even if I had been TOTALLY unattractive,
that would be highly unlikely.)
