Default Italy - trecking the Abbey

I'd like to treck in Italy and visit Abbey, or Monastery, you know the type
high on the mountain away from civilization.

Have anyone made a trip like this ?

What's the best region in North Italy for this ?

Is it possible to rent a dunkey or small horse. I want some backup for my
kids...

Thanks.

Eric.

There is a Benedictine monastery near Turin called Sacra di San Michele

Run by Rosminian Fathers, you can also stay in their guest lodge for
spiritual reflection or retreat. There is a car park 10 min walk from the
abbey, or walk up in about 90 min.
It gives a spectacular view of Alpine peaks in the distance. I've found the
monks very friendly and hospitable too (a bit of Italian helps).
Further north in the Aosta valley there are many churches and abbeys perched
on top of hills.
