Please indicate whatever is the best European travel-related bulletin
board.

We are interested in something non-commercial, where travelers have
posted their best advice regarding various destinations.

Thank you.

It just doesn't get any better than where you are right now.

Why just advice from travelers? Many times the locals have better advice to
give.

That's a pretty sad fact.

I now post frequently on TripAdvisor. There used to be some excellent
advice given here, but many of these posters have left long ago, but
it's still possible to get some good advice and a few people are
extremely helpful. Now it seems that simple questions that almost
anyone could answer are ignored and people may poke fun at the person
and go off on lengthly unrelated tangents for the benefit of the
regulars' entertainment. Even in the past if I wanted information on
rec.travel it might be necessary to intentionally include a few
mistakes, because there are many people ready to correct you, but few
to give a good answer, and hopefully someone along the way will answer
your real question that you're concerned about.

Many people in the forums that I post in on TripAdvisor are really
experts and live in the areas that they post about. They also have
extensive reviews which in many cases I wouldn't trust that much,
unless given by one of these "experts". As that forum, unlike this
forum, is moderated and inappropriate posts removed, you won't see all
the spam and other weirdo posts on unrelated topics. And people are
helpful and take the time and go out of the way to answer almost any
question, even for the dumbest misguided people. VirtualTourist is
another website, but after looking at wrong information posted and
grossly mislabeled photos, I have no desire to post there, although a
few people appeared to give some excellent advice.

I like the forum at www.fodors.com; lots of activity. Also there is a ton of
good information at www.slowtrav.com, especially on renting apartments and
villas. And they have a question-and-answer board: www.slowtalk.com.
Finally somebody else has mentioned www.tripadvisor.com; I've used it mainly
for hotel reviews. Another site with hotel reviews is www.venere.com; it
shows the location of the hotel on a city map.

For more budget-oriented travel, there's the grafitti wall at
www.ricksteves.com and the Thorn Tree at www.lonelyplanet.com.

Happy (cyber)traveling!

I've also done that on other usenet groups which I used
professionally. Although I knew that people were able to answer my
questions, often times no one would, and also I noticed that for other
peoples' posts. But seeing that there are always an abundance of
posts correcting mistakes and these posts were almost always replied
to, I found that it always pays to make a few small deliberate ones.
Then when these superior people reply, they may condescend also to
answering your real question.

I don't believe this post of yours will be commented by another post. It is
too provocative.
