If you have enough money, then it doesn't matter. Passport drive has
same problems with x-ray and customs as others.

I have yet to see any proof of any problems.

I have seen my passport drive go through more airport X-ray machines
than I can count in the past five years and it still works.

Not sure what you mean by the
cloud?

Ah,

Unless your backing up to your home country network, you have to pay
fees for storage on a network, pretty steep ones.

Let me explain.

I use Google Mail for email which stores my mail on its web page.

I get some free storage for being a Ubuntu user.

I can get up to 20 GBytes of space for about twenty quid ($30) a year
from them.

It's cheap.

-talking about online storage, if so that costs alot

Not any more it doesn't. You're out of date.

Examples? I just searched this. Cheapest I could find was about $50 a
year introductory offer. Also you must encrypt your files and even then
you're taking a big risk the network owner will not go out of biz or
worse.

See above, plus to ensure you don't lose it if your data people go
broke you back up locally as well.

Also, I wonder if anyone has done a study on those scanners and laptops
to actually see if they shorten data life?

I keep asking that one as well.

The answer so far seems to be 'No'.
