Default 48 hours in Vegas - suggestions?

Family of 5 has just under 48 hours in Vegas - Fri+Sat night incl.

Would appreciate a list of must sees family suitable (kids 15, 12, 10).

Looking at the Tournament of the Kings on Sat evening. I have heard
the Bellagio Fountain is must see

Best free shows other times?
We prefer not to spend out time wandering aimlessly, or is this just as
good?

Vegas is oriented more for adults, but still there's lots they would
enjoy if you're selective.

You'll probably spend most of your time on The Strip, which is the
section of Las Vegas Boulevard where most of the newer hotel/casinos
are located. There are lots of "themed" hotels there which you and
your kids will enjoy viewing, such as the Luxor (giant pyramid), New
York New York. the Paris, etc. There are numerous web sites where you
can read more about them; and as some one else mentioned;
cheapovegas.com is a good starting point for info. They'd also enjoy
the magnificent fountains in front of the Bellagio. (See their web
site for the schedule.)

Inside some of the themed hotels your kids would enjoy seeing the
lobby (the Luxor, for instance), but be aware that kids are NOT
allowed in gambling areas, except if they're just walking through
quickly with their parents. The Bellagio has stricter rules and
doesn't allow kids ANYWHERE inside the buildings (see their web site
for details), but of course watching the fountains outside is no
problem.

If your kids are Star Trek fans there's the Star Trek Experience (at
the Hilton, I think). However it will be closing so check first to
make sure it's still operating.

The very tall Stratosphere has an observation lounge on top, and also
some amusement park rides on top for those who dare.

Hoover Dam is a major tourist attraction that's just a short drive
from Vegas. It's quite impressive and also educational.

There are also some parks nearby with beautiful desert scenery -- Red
Rock and Valley of Fire. A Google search will turn up lots of info.
Death Valley National Park is another option; it's further away but
makes a nice day trip.

time wandering aimlessly

Not a good idea in Vegas. It's usually extremely hot and the strip is
about 4 miles long.

Also the lions at the MGM, the silly pirate show at some hotel, the gondolas
at the Venetian. One hotel, I forgot which, had a huge flower display with a
little house, water wheel all covered with flowers and plants and a
simulated stream consisting of various colors of apples. They might enjoy a
walk through the ultimate in corny NY,NY hotel. The bus that goes up and
down the strip eases the pain of "wandering aimlessly". Neither me nor
SWIMBO gamble, but we spent two days gawking while there. They also might
enjoy starting a collection of cards featuring the various rip off hookers
that are passed out profusely on the streets.

the silly pirate show at some hotel

That's at TI (formerly called Treasure Island). Get there early for
the outdoor show or you'll have a crowd blocking your view.

One hotel, I forgot which, had a huge flower display with a
little house, water wheel *all covered with flowers...

That might have been the Bellagio, as they often have elaborate floral
displays in their conservatory. Unfortunately kids aren't allowed in.
Or it might be the Wynn.

I have been bothered by these statements that the Bellagio does not allow
children in their hotel. Just now called them and children ARE ALLOWED to
come into the hotel. Put it to rest, please.

come into the hotel [Bellagio]. Put it to rest, please.

Thanks for checking, but did the person you spoke to explain all their
restrictions? Their official rules (pasted below) state that children
are allowed ONLY under certain circumstances, such as their parents
being registered guests or having show tickets.

This policy is pretty well known. For example, Vegas.com says: "the
Bellagio does not allow children inside unless...[conditions]", and
Las Vegas for Kids says "One must be 18 years of age or a registered
hotel guest to enter Bellagio"

I'll paste the Bellagio's official policy below. (Although the rules
say "Bellagio Casino", these rules apply to their entire facility, as
many people can attest.)

-------BELLAGIO'S "UNDER 18" RULES------
You must be 18 years of age or a registered hotel guest to enter
Bellagio Casino.
The following exceptions apply to minors who are at least 5 years of
age and accompanied by an adult at least 18 years of age:
Restaurant reservations for Michael Mina, FIX, Sensi, Circo, Jasmine,
Le Cirque, Picasso or Prime
Attending a wedding in our Wedding Chapels
Attending a convention function
Attending a performance of "O"
Gallery of Fine Art
Children of hotel guests and non-hotel guests are allowed if
accompanied by an adult. Non-hotel guests with children must have
their tickets in hand prior to arriving to Bellagio.
Visiting a Via Bellagio shop by appointment only
Strollers are allowed for hotel guests only.

Well, I think that sucks. [Bellagio's policy]

Yeah, a lot of people would agree.
