Default sunset magazine 20 best seaside getaways?

Hi-- I'm an editor at Sunset Magazine. To answer some of the questions
posed in this thread:

1. Sunset is a west coast lifestyle and travel magazine. That's why
the article didn't cover resorts in Florida or New England. To learn
more about Sunset, visit our website at http://www.sunset.com

2. You can't view the majority our content online unless you're a
subscriber to either AOL or to the magazine, but you can get a free
temporary day pass if there is a specific article you want to view
once.

3. We do cover Hawaii and Alaska from time to time-- however, for the
purposes of this feature, we were writing about resorts in the
continental west coast states-- e.g., Washington, Oregon, Calif, as
well as British Columbia.

I hope this helps clear up the questions people had.

Just got my latest issue of Sunset. Even people who don't live in the
Western states can subscribe to this very fine magazine. Unfortunately if
you live in the frigid midwest and you see pictures of blooming wild
flowers, west coast envy will set in.

In the past, at least, my understanding is that Easterners'
requests for subscriptions will not be accepted. I believe that
Sunset doesn't want to dilute the advertising value, and
therefore ad fees, to western advertisers.

I think nowadays magazine advertising can be regionally targeted. I often
see ads in my national magazine for local businesses.

However, you can look at http://www.sunny.org or
http://www.nmark.com/njs/ or http://www.oceangrovenj.com/ or,
http://www.njscuba.com/ or, http://www.vitinc.com/ocean/ or,
http://www.pressofatlanticcity.com/s...ide/index.html for Free. But
then you won't be on the West Coast but the East Coast which has charms
of it's own.

That is very true!

To clarify: in addition to the ,coastal states, Sunset covers the
mountain states (Colorado, Utah, Wyoming and Montana) as well as the
southwest (Arizona, New Mexico.) If you have any more questions,
please visit our website. And thanks for your interest in Sunset
Magazine!

I used to hear the same thing about Sunset, but that was
before Time Inc. bought it, so there may have been an
official attitude change about Easterners since then. :-)

Perhaps Meg can clarify whether it's just an urban legend
or actual history that Sunset tried to block subscriptions
from outside the West. (And Meg--darned fine magazine you
have there! I'm also looking forward to your annual open
house in May.)

True enough, but unless the non-western editions are of
signifiant circulation it doesn't make financial sense. And while
ther are national advertisers that might want to blanket all
editions, there aren't many dude ranches in New York state that
will find it ecoomic to advertise in Sunset.
