3 nights las vegas around xmas
hi
me and my girl (both from the minneapolis area - MSP) would like to get away to a warmer area sometime this winter. i was thinking about something like 3-4 nights in las vegas, between xmas and new years. so what i wanted to ask is pretty much whether you guys have any suggestions how to get a flight/hotel deal as cheap as possible. any online places you can suggest? or special promotions? we really are pretty flexible - and if you can suggest another warm destination (florida, mexico,...) thats even more affordable, i'd be happy to look into that too. thanks a bunch in advance. sid |

One time we were there and it snowed. That said, it's low season in Vegas and you should be able to score some pretty cheap rooms. Check out the web sites for specific hotels and see their rates. Don't be afraid to go to the big ones (Paris, for example). |

Vegas can sometimes be cold during that period. At that time of year, the average daily high is 57 F (which isn't bad in Vegas' bright sunlight), but the average low is a chilly 37 F. For hotel advice, there are a number of good web sites that compare the hotels; for example, try Cheapo Vegas (www.cheapovegas.com). If this is your first visit, you might want to stay on The Strip (the main casino area). Rates are higher on the Strip, but it's part of the Vegas experience. You can often find specials if you look. Weekdays are usually cheaper than weekends. However, beware of Strip hotels with very low rates (like Circus Circus), as they can be dreary or in bad locations. If you're on a tight budget, you might be better off just staying in a different part of town where rates are less. You might want to also post your question to the Las Vegas newsgroup (alt.vacation.las-vegas). Jim |

What's your definition of "affordable?" Keep in mind that although Las Vegas will be much warmer than Minneapolis during the winter, its still likely to be cool; nowhere near as warm as southern Florida. Any of the tropical areas such as Mexico are going to be in big demand for vacationers during the winter holiday season so don't expect to find cheap bargains there that time of year. This is also true of semi-tropical areas such as Southern Florida. Las Vegas will probably be the cheapest destination of those you listed, but its not exactly going to be swimming weather there either during the holiday season. The weather will probably be in the 50 degree range. The best choice of vacation spot for you depends on your budget, but since you didn't give any clue of what your budget is, its hard to make any firm recommendations. |

If warmth is the key, go further south. OTOH, we have been pretty chilly at
Puerto Penasco in Mexico at holiday time. And one year the temp in Napa, CA was in the 40s. Can you say F-l-o-r-i-d-a? would like to get away to a warmer area sometime this winter . . . 3-4 nights in las vegas Temperatures in 'Vegas can be quite low but not, I guess, when compared to Minneapolis. For "A bit of NON-GAMBLING LAS VEGAS" please visit http://geocities.com/iconoc/Articles/LasVegas.html at the site at Right in the sig. It has links to a dozen related sites. I highly recommend visiting the bar at the far end of the Stratosphere at ten o'clock on a Monday for a blast of a Blues jam. __________________________________________________ _________________ A San Franciscan who's visited 49 of 50 US states. http://geocities.com/dancefest/ - http://geocities.com/iconoc/ ICQ: http://wwp.mirabilis.com/19098103 --- IClast at SFbay Net |
