Habits in Australia

Hello,

I'm a young french student, and I'm looking for indications about
Australia's way of life : their habits in leisures, work, daily
life...

I don't kniw where I can find this type of informations. If someone
know where I can find this, or if some people who travelled in this
country could give me some information, it would be very kind.

Well, I guess as a resident of sunny Australia for the last half a
century I can probably give you some help, I'm just not too sure what
you'd like to know?

We're pretty laid back, don't fuss too much about most things, we've
got a Prime Minister you're welcome to take back with you (offer only
available to the first person who takes him).

We have what I would regard as one of the nicest, safest places on
earth and a long way from the rest of the world (which isn't too bad
at times).

Tell me more about your specific questions and I'll try to answer more
precisely.

When I win the lottery Australia will be my first destination.
It has always been a dream of mine to visit that country. But as I dont
fly it would have to be a journey made on the seas and that is a lot of
cash.

Well, it's a pretty nice place and I wouldn't live anywhere else. Of
course you might not think that if you read this morning's newspaper
which told of two hookers who were tied up and thrown in to a
crocodile infested river alive, but that doesn't happen *that* often,
and that was in the far north where it's a bit wilder ..... 8*)

The rest of the country is really nice, the people are nice (if you
ignore the politicians) and overall I'd recommend it.

Getting here is the problem, just as our getting anywhere else is -
it's a bloody long way from the rest of the world!

We have a variety of people here of all nationalities, and probably
the only problem is the same as anywhere - the ability to communicate.
If your english is good enough to communicate then you won't have a
problem, but you won't find a lot of french speakers just in normal
day-to-day situations. I don't think that there's a problem in being
French, in fact I think the accent is rather interesting. You are
probably going to be received better here than we are when we visit
europe because europe is full of tourists and probably gets a bit
tired of them, whereas we have fewer visitors.

Not sure what you mean about habits or traditions in business, but I
visited Paris a couple of years ago and found that day-to-day things
were not all that different (apart from language). The population here
is probably more widely spread rather than being concentrated in a
city, and the people are probably a little friendlier, but aside from
that there isn't a major difference that I can think of.
