Hello All!

Alexander McColl Smith, in a book of the "44 Scotland Street" series,
mentioned a parlor game, to come up with a famous Belgian who was not
called Leopold. You know, I can't think of one :-)

Easy. Willem van Hanegem, soccer player.
OK, he's from Zeeuws Vlaanderen in the Netherlands, but that's
considered 'close enough'.

Well, I am (somewhat) enlightened. I did recognize 11 of them :-) Apart
from Leo Baekeland, Audrey Hepburn and Ilya Prigogine, the others are
musicians or painters, some of whom I might maintain were actually
Dutch.

I sure can't think of many, whether called "Leopold" or not.

The one name that comes to mind is Peter Paul Rubens, the great
painter.

I said I recognized 11 but there are 12, very much including Monsigor
Georges Lemaitre who invented the "Big Bang" theory and warned the Pope
not to take it as proof of the existence of God.

In opera José van Dam (born Joseph van Damme), in more popular music
Jacques Brel, and of course for "action" movie lovers Jean-Claude Van Damme.
