A couple more Mexico questions please...
Hey all,
Moving closer to my upcoming trip... I'm taking a morning bus from San Cristobal to Palenque. That same night, I'm taking an overnight bus to Merida. Is there a place to lock down my bags at the bus station while I explore the ruins at Palenque? Next question... Will I have enough time to get to the Cancun airport for an 11:30am flight if I sleep overnight in Playa del Carmen. If not, is there any other place you can recommend to spend my last day in Mexico while avoiding the Spring Break madness in Cancun? Thanks very much for all the great advice I've received from people here! I hope I can pass it on to others making similar trips. -todd amodeo http://bartlebymusic.com Press here for Free Mp3s, Free CDs and NO surprise Sex scandals! |

It's roughly an hour's drive from Playa to the airport in Cancun. Dennis |

Every secretary in the country saves up all year to travel (and party) that week, and so does most of the rest of the country. Easter week and Christmas week are the worst times to try to travel, get a room, or squeeze into a restaurant, except perhaps in Mexico City, which becomes a virtual ghost town for the week. Every room near any beach , and all modes of travel will be jam packed. Be prepared for some very frustrating moments......just be patient, everyone else is in the same boat...............Howard |

A lady I met on the San Cristobal bus did just that. She checked her bag next to the bus station, spent the afternoon at the ruins, shared a pleasant dinner with me and sped off on the night bus. But. She did not see king Pacal's tomb, the queen's tomb, the lower and extremely beautiful half of the ruins with the water fall and the very important Palenque Museum. Neither did she visit Agua Azul or Misol Ha. I stayed two nights and saw all that and think it was worth the time. Is there a place to lock down my bags at the bus station while I explore the ruins at Palenque? "Lock down" is a big word but yes, a couple of doors down. Next question... Will I have enough time to get to the Cancun airport for an 11:30am flight if I sleep overnight in Playa del Carmen. If not, is there any other place you can recommend to spend my last day in Mexico while avoiding the Spring Break madness in Cancun? You could say that PDC is 50 minutes from the airport and Cancun is 30 minutes. And the lower PDC hotel cost will cover the difference in cab fare. Whether you speed through or take your time, have a great trip. Louisg |

The buses we got from Playa-del-Carmen to Canc=FAn, left every hour, on t= he hour, and took between fifty and fifty-five minutes to get to the airport= .. So you'll have plenty of time. Do me a favour, eh ? On V Ave, in Playa-del-Carmen, there's a restaurant where you can get 'all-you-can-eat' breakfast for (IIRC) 48 pesas. The chairs are in glossy, posh wood, some of them are on the pavement, and th= e waiters all stand outside whilst waiting for customers. If you see this place, could you note the name, and send it to me via e-mail, as I forgot to note it ...=20 url:http://www.zeouane.org/voyages/2004/mexique/ Thanks. --=20 Spam_off |
