Need some travel advice regarding costa rica
Hola Everybody,
I am looking to spend a week in costa rica. Can you please suggest what are the must see locations, restaurants, activites to do while in costa rica. I plan to fly to san jose. I am interested in seeing the volcano, canopy tour from the information i could gather on net so far. Please let me know how to plan for watching the volcano since i read it is far from san jose. Also is the third week of november a good time for a trip there? Thanks in advance; Shanky |

Need some travel advice regarding costa rica
We've been to Costa Rica 5 times, always towards the end of Nov. which is a
great time to go. Rates are still low, and the heavy rains are starting to go. I can recommend a great B&B in San Jose. Good places to stay near Aernal Volcano are the Aernal Observatory Lodge or Aernal Lodge. You may or may not get to see the top of the Volcano, depending on cloud coverage. Aernal Volcano isn't that far from San Jose. It is a beautiful, rugged drive. Great hiking, fishing in Lake Aernal, windsurfing on Lake Aernal, horsebackriding, etc. We have driven from Cahuita all the way to Playa Flamingo (that's all the way across the country) in one long day. Quepos is a good town to visit. It is near Manual Antonio. We stay at Hotel Costa Verde. Hotel Sugar Beach near Playa Flamingo is fantastic. Buy Frommer's guide to Costa Rica. It has many suggestions. Avoid the Caribbean Coast. Pura Vida, G. "shanky" wrote in message oups.com... Hola Everybody, I am looking to spend a week in costa rica. Need some travel advice regarding costa rica
Hi G&G;
Thanks for the reply. I would like to know is it safe to rent a car to drive from san jose to volcano area or can i get a tourist vehicle that can take me to the volcano region. Also I read about the canopy tour on internet. How far is the forest region from san jose and which is best means of transportation to get there? Could you please suggest me the name of B&B in san jose? Hope to hear from you soon; Shanky G&G wrote: We've been to Costa Rica 5 times, always towards the end of Nov. which is a great time to go. Need some travel advice regarding costa rica
Shanky, you can easily rent a car and drive up to Arenal and the
jungle canopy tour areas. We rented a little four wheel drive Mitsubishi, if I remember right. Unless the roads have totally collapsed since 1999 you will have a fine trip. Potholes are a way of life in CR. You just deal with them. But this isn't like jungle driving, other than a few back roads that may take you the final mile to some place you are getting to. Just don't try that final mile when you find it in anything other than a 4 wheel drive car. Make sure to go to the hot springs resort there near Arenal, I do believe it's Tabicon, it's quite nice. You don't have to stay at the resort, which is a very upper crust kind of place that those with lots of income tend to come to for holiday. If you want a more real trip, then stay down in town, I could find the name of the little hotel. At the resort, the north side of the road has a walk in day pass kind of area, where you can sit in the river and soak (the river itself is something like 105 to 110 degrees F. It was one of the highlights of the trip. The hotels and B&Bs in CR are, pretty much across the board, wonderful and cheap. We never felt like we stayed in a subpar place. The average CR often has a B&B attached to their house for a little extra income, and they are very clean and proud people that want you to be happy with your stay. I would take advantage of the B&Bs because it is one of the good sides of CR as opposed to what you might find in other places in Central & S. A. Have fun! Be adventurous! I plan to fly to san jose.
