Campervanning - Cairns to Sydney
Hello,
I wonder if any travellers have any favourite camping sites ( for a motorhome ) on the journey south from Cairns to Sydney ? I would favour quieter sites with basic facilities ( hook ups - hot showers/toilets & BBQs ) rather than the larger family sites which tend to be overcrowded & noisy. Suggestions appreciated Thanks in advance, Peter ( UK ) |

Campervanning - Cairns to Sydney
Hi Peter,
My suggestion would be for you to go to these sites and have a look around. If you join either or both the groups clubs, then for $25-40 each club for 2 year membership, you get 10% discount for the van site. Quite worth joining (see on their web pages), as you will soon recover the cost with your discount. Those two groups also have reciprocal agreements with NZ parks groups for the discount,so if going there in next 2 yers the card works there as well http://www.big4.com.au/ $40 for 2yrs membership http://www.toptouristparks.com.au/ $25 for 2 years membership Find their "find a park" bit on their webpages ,then click on the state you want and go from there. For instance,in Cairns there is a Five star and a Four star park (Big4) The 5 star has ensuite adjacent to van site to which you pull up alongside and its all yours, no one else uses it. see here http://cairns-coconut-caravan-resort...red-sites.aspx Top Tourist in Cairns has 3 parks. http://www.toptouristparks.com.au/st...d&towns=Cairns From memory, you can join up at the first park of theirs that you use and they give you a temporary membership card. Otherwise you perhaps would need to join early enough for the card to be sent to you at your home address wherever that may be. +++ BTW Have you booked your campervan already as I was wondering if you had thought of using these groups to hire cabins from nightly thus allowing you to hire a standard small car rather than the motorhome. It may mean the cost isnt perhaps a lot different, but the fuel cost will be less with smaller vehicle and this makes a lot of difference when you want to get around and look at things in the various towns. ie more mobility and dont need to put a sign on the van site saying "its in use" when the campervan is out and about. e.g. hire a small Toyota corolla car and use cabins each night maybe more cost effective than hiring the campervan and a van site. These cabins have refrigerators, microwave ovens, TV and ensuite facilities, etc so you can buy food and prepare it just as you would in your campervan http://www.toptouristparks.com.au/st...d&towns=Cairns Most places have cabins in which the main bed is fully made up with pillowcases and sheets and rugs, and towels etc. some will supply sheets/towels pillowcases as an extra.... need to ask each place you book as to what their situation is. .. They also will send you a directory of their places or you can get it at first onew you book at Maybe worth a look at least. regards John H "PJT" wrote in message ...
