Which Airline? LAX->AKL->LAX
Hello all and my apologies for jut barging in....
I'm going on Holiday to visit my sweetie in NZ for a couple of weeks in Feb-March. Both Qantas and Air New Zealand ply the LAX-- AKL route, so I'm wondering which airline would be the better to travel on as far as "comfort in the steerage section" is concerned? Thanks for any advice... Amanda |

Depends on your definition of "comfort". NZ has 34" of knee space between seat rows, QF has 32". QF has ISV at each seat, NZ has the main screen & scattered small monitors set up around the cabin. Both will water you and feed you a couple of times. Both will be crewed as a general rule by the senior staffers (LAX is still a prized route for the crews) so service will range from uncaring/blase but adequate to warm and friendly with any number of moods in between. NZ seems to have a better reputation for it's crews than QF does reading past responses in forums such as this, but that's all relative and subjective. Both carriers have fine reputations for equipment and safety matters. If you are one that can't sleep on planes the ISV of QF wins you over or you are one that can sleep and can't be bothered with ISV where NZ's extra room will win you over. Bottom line - they are both much the same whichever you pick, so $ and frequent flyer affiliations will probably decide the outcome for you. (NZ is in Star, QF is in oneworld). |

I recently flew Air NZ and found that the fold out head supports on the chairs were great - got a good sleep without having my head flopping around on my shoulders. |

The one with the cheapest seats!!! and/or the most convenient timetable!!
Qantas aircraft are newer, otherwise they're very similar. "Amanda Rekkonwith" wrote in message news:qLYxd.2435$_62.414@trnddc01... Hello all and my apologies for jut barging in.... FWIW, for the last few years also the Qantas 747's, at least the ones flying from London to Singapore and Melbourne and from Sydney to Singapore and London, also have fold out head supports. They are indeed much more comfortable than an inflatable neck cushion. |

Thanks for any advice... Amanda Two alternatives: www.airtahitinui.com which flies via Tahiti www.airpacific.com which flies via Fiji I did a quick check on Orbitz's website and also found United flights LAX-Sydney [Australia] then Air New Zealand to Auckland. Warning: often this routing costs more. Alternative return was either via SYD or Air NZ to LAX non-stop. United & NZ code share. Are you a member of any frequent flier programmes? If so, check the partner airlines. Cath |
