Default Cairo Guides

Hi All

We are going to be taking a very short stopover in Cairo in
mid-May next year - basically three nights. In that time all
I expect to see are the Pyramids and the museum. Yeah, I
know, not enough time.

I'd appreciate advice on a few questions. First, from
reading and lurking, it's become clear to me that a
guide/driver arranged in advance may be a good idea. What
would a personal guide and driver cost for 72 hours
(Fri/Sat/Sun) in Egyptian Pounds - assuming pick-up and drop
at 2pm at the airport? Are there reputable agencies to
contact that will supply a trained guide (for a senior
couple) whose main aim in life is to guide me where I want
to go and protect me from harassment, not guide me to his
cousin's shop?

Day 1 would be mainly jet-lag recovery, having flown
BNE-SIN-BAH-CAI over three days and two nights. Saturday
museum (is it open Sat?), Sunday Pyramids (or vice-versa).
No camel-rides, no special requirements.

Secondly, what are the best value hotels, 4* or above, near
the Pyramids?

Are there reputable hotels that might offer the guide/driver
service as part of a package?

Fianlly, any suggestions (be nice:-) for a new traveler to
Egypt under those circumstances would be appreciated.

Cheers, Alan, Australia

I have a comment about the Pyramids, or rather two.

First of all, not all pyramids are open, that changes over time, check
in advance on Internet wich to choose.

Secondly, the pyramids don't allow infinite visitors, 100 tickets are
released in the morning (was it 09.00) and another 100 tickets at 13.00,
that is all!

You need to buy in advance via agent, or get there about 1 hour in
advance in order to get your ticket.

The Khufu pyramid is a MUST, but dont miss out the barge museum on the
south side of the pyramid.

Whu not also try lunch at the Cairo Tower, Youll get a good view of
Cairo from above!
