Selling crack is enterprising too. Perhaps she could try doing that instead. This is true. However, I still thought she'd learned her lesson on her own and it wasn't necessary to get her bosses involved at this stage. It didn't sound like she learned any lesson to me. Where's our apology? Frankly, I don't think it will hurt their business much. People on USENET are unlikely to have used their services or recommended them to anyone either. I disagree. People on USENET may have friends outside of USENET. Word spreads. I'm calling my entire network of contacts and letting them know about Dena's shenanigans, instructing them to each call at least a hundred people. By next week, Dena will be ruined, penniless, a sniveling crack whore. Mark my words. It only took me 2 minutes to find all kinds of things out about Flint Island and I'm not even a cruise rep. That's what I was trying to tell Dena . . .it is unlikely that anyone at rec.scuba.locations will use her services regardless. But I've been wrong before and she could have had the opportunity to prove me wrong, had she responded with info about Flint Island and kept a cool head on her shoulders. But this is being cross-posted. Probably people on rec.travel.cruises do use travel agents for cruises. Hopefully they will stand in solidarity with their fellow USENETers and fight egregious spammers to the death. There are many commercial posters on USENET and other boards. They do end up getting business because of their style of posting. They are friendly and helpful and eventually build up a trust with the other posters. Then the other posters start to use and recommend their services. There are some fine examples, and one I'm thinking of specifically is a Cozumel dive operator. Another here and on rec.scuba.locations was Jim Wyatt (despite his weather reports). :^) Jim Wyatt is out of business now. Aldora sucks. Well, my take on it, is that she is very young and still has some learning to do. She may well turn out to be a fine travel assistant in the fullness of time. Assuming she can learn from her mistakes, that is and assuming you didn't manage to significantly damage her relationship with Diane and Jim. Young and inexperienced is only a good excuse in bed. Never in business. |

Is female prostitution known as "selling crack"? :-) Some travel agents GIVE away "stuff" as enticements for their clients to use them. Frankly, I don't think it will hurt their business much. By next week, Dena will be ruined, penniless, a sniveling crack whore. Mark my words. A "sniveling crack whore". :-) That's one thing Ray Goldenberg has not achieved. But this is being cross-posted. Yup. And this is the first instance I had a few moments to follow-up on the Anti-Spam Festival activity besides following up on Ray Goldenberg's SOLO repetitive SPAMs and his 3 fans in rec.travel.cruises. Probably people on rec.travel.cruises do use travel agents for cruises. Hopefully they will stand in solidarity with their fellow USENETers and fight egregious spammers to the death. LOL! Ray had been spamming there long before I started reading that group ever since I had done about two dozen cruises in three years. Ray has ABSOLUTELY, POSITIVELY, no substance about cruising to offer other than his modus operadi of "I have this 'press release' ..." and proceeded to spam for his travel agency. Come visit rec.travel.cruises and asks Ray a few questions about .... Greg, you know all those places you travel to -- I bet you in no time flat you would have exhausted Ray Goldenberg's TOTAL knowledge about cruising and other travels. :-) He spams with his toll free numbers. Call him and ask him questions often, and let us know if he knows ANYTHING. One person who followed up on my post about Ray's spam said Ray had HIGHER prices than what he could find in other places and had the gall to say that it's because it's HIM that deserved to be paid higher. ROTFLMAO! Of course rec.travel.cruises readers use travel agents. As much as I know about most of my own travel, I use travel agencies and agents therein when they have favorable bulk rate than I could get. But in rec.travel.cruises there are at least those few SUCKERS who spoke up AGAINST me (about 3 that I counted) for exposing Ray's spam think Ray's existence in the newsgroup is justified. There are many commercial posters on USENET and other boards. They do end up getting business because of their style of posting. Another here and on rec.scuba.locations was Jim Wyatt (despite his weather reports). :^) Jim Wyatt is out of business now. Aldora sucks. There are MANY posters in readers in rec.travel.cruises that I know are in the travel business or have acknowledged to be travel agents. But it took me a while before I realize that some of them ARE travel agents because they are not bad-ass cretins like Ray Goldenberg! As long as they don't spam and engage in discussion of cruises and related info, I couldn't care less if they are travel agents of not. What about an old an experienced cretin? That's what Ray Goldenberg is. Have not seen many like him, in all my years in usenet, to be so dumb, so ignorant, so arrogant about his ads, and is still practicing his transparent spam trick of posting his own "junk mail" and then tell readers to contact HIM for booking travel. :-) -- Bob. |

Hi,
I've been lurking for about a week now, and wanted to advertise my services here as a tour operator in South Africa. But now I'm starting to wonder if this is the right place! I don't want to spam, but I do want to draw attention to what I can do. So - what's the protocol? BTW, I did do some background research on Dena's posting history, to see if she does actually act as a contributor *anywhere*. Prior to her interactions while being trolled this past week, it looks like there's been only one (1) circumstance where she actually offered any advice instead of just her inappropriate self-serving advertising hyperbola. So overall, Dena merely identified herself as yet another self-serving Internet exploiter and not a Community contributor. allforums.net: Read before booking your next cruise or vacation!! Catherine, What is considered acceptable varies by the individual USENET Group, so there is no set answer. Generally, the first thing to do is to read the appropriate group's FAQ and Charter, and then lurk (which you're already doing). Stepping in on a close-to-topic thread with the question as you've asked above is also a smart approach. In simplest form, people like contributors and dislike exploiters. I won't speak for r.t.c or r.t.m, but on r.s.l, what this generally means is that it is considered acceptable is to list your business in your .SIG file (which of course, is no more than 4 lines), and to then be an active and positive contributor to the group that you're choosing to be a member of. In other words, post good content and your .SIG gets a free exposure to promote yourself. What you don't want to do is to post "nothings", as it then becomes transparent that you're doing it just to provide exposure for your .SIG At least that's how it has generally worked on r.s.l. -hh |

I mainly deal with South African tours, but have have started extending my area to include Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia lately. Where are you from? I mean - where would you want to start from? Are you looking for a huge liner, or would you want to join up with someone doing a private cruise? Swell. Just what we needed, a TA in rec.travel.cruises never been involved in cruises. Where are you from? I mean - where would you want to start from? The only flies buzzing around her ointment (other than your sig greater than the customarily allowable 4 lines) may be something like: Who in the right mind would want cruising advice from an African agent, who has never cruised or been involved with cruising, by calling from the USA (or Canada, or Brit, or ...) an African phone number for this TA? I am sure you'll be receiving many phone calls from LOL O'Boyle! LOL! (a different one). In reality, I think your post self-destructs, in 5 minutes. :-) -- Bob. |
