Cozumel - what to do/where to eat?
We're headed back to Coz in February after a 5-year absence. The last
time we were there on a package at the Allegro AI on Playa San Francisco. This time we're on our own in a little hotel on Playa Norte. We don't dive, but I would appreciate suggestions on snorkel sites besides Chankanaab. We've been to San Gervasio, and toured the east side of the island, but if there are other sites we should see, please do tell. Also, since we stayed at an AI last time, any recommendation for good food (particularly local dishes and fresh seafood) would be appreciated. Here's our last visit the http://www.webkatz.net/Mexico/cozumel.html. I know the island has changed a lot in 5 years and am really looking forward to some current information. Thanks, Dave --- "Every normal man must be tempted at times to spit upon his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats." - HL Mencken |

WebKatz's cat walked across a keyboard and came up with this:

Stay away from the chains. For really really nice, Try ( I think it's called) Casa La Mission. We had great fresh seafood at El Capi Navigante, tho some say that place is hit or miss. Jeannies Waffle house makes an awesome breakfast. Walk throught town and see what strikes your fancy. http://gocozumel.com/restaurants/ |

Cozumel - what to do/where to eat?
"WebKatz" wrote in message om... We don't dive, but I would appreciate suggestions on snorkel sites besides Chankanaab. As I'm heading back there soon I've been looking at this question myself. From what I've seen I think you're better off going to the mainland for snorkeling. On the south end of Coz' the Parque Punta Sur is reputed to have good snorkeling. Near the La Ceiba hotel is an area variously called The Junkyard or Airplane Flats for an airplane that was sunk there for a movie about 100 meters off shore. Playa San Francisco is also listed as a snorkeling site. www.johann-sandra.com/snorkeling.htm lists: Passion island, Gorgonian Flats, La Villa, Blanca reef, Pico's reef, La Ceiba Reef preserve, International Pier, Paraiso North and South, Paradise shallows, Holiday Inn Reef, and Punta Chiqueros as sites that are reachable from shore. My understanding is that the International pier is NOT open to snorkeling or diving because of all the boat and ship traffic in that area. Another interesting possibility is helmet diving. http://www.cozumelinsider.com/tours/...dventures.html Dennis |

We've got Airplane Flats and Punta Sur on the list for sure. Is there a tour to get out to Passion island or is that something you can do from the shore? Some friends just got back from Coz and said the guys running the "snuba" operation (similar to the helmet diving) there turned out to be from their hometown in rural Minnesota. Small world. Thanks again, Dave |
