Planning trip to Croatia & Bosnia
I am planning a trip by rail early summer, to Zagreb, Split, then ferry to
Dubrovnik, bus to Ploce, train via Sarajevo. If anyone on here has recent experience of any of these travel legs, or the towns mentioned, I'd be glad to hear from them! Tony Day |

May I help? Regards, Aitor aitoru at ozu.es http://w3.to/travellers |

Tony Day Don't know about Exmouth to Zagreb, I think I might fly that leg ;-) Anyway, I did a fair bit of travelling in this region last summer. Zagreb to Split by night train is probably best, although book well in advance to get a sleeper. Ffestiniog Travel will be of help here. Split is worth a couple of days, more if you want to visit islands in the area. Zlatni Rat beach on Bol is the horn-shaped beach seen so often in tourist literature, and can be visited on a day trip by getting the early ferry from Split to Supetar, bus connection to Bol and vv. I might suggest rather than getting the ferry from Split to Dubrovnik, backtrack up the coast to Zadar and get the ferry from there, if you're not pressed for time. This has two benefits: seeing Trogir, Sibenik and Zadar on the way, and also means that you don't have to get up early in Split. If the schedules are the same this year as last, then the Split departure is at 0700 - the same ferry, twice a week, leaves from Zadar the previous night, and you can get a cabin for a comfy night's sleep. Dubrovnik is worth several nights' stay, to allow time to explore the old town and surrounding islands. A walk around the city walls is a must, but best to do it after 5pm on a hot day! Bus to Ploce should be no problem, I think there are around 8 a day, if not more. Ploce to Sarajevo by train is twice daily, although don't miss Mostar - spend a night here for sure. Ploce is not worth visiting other than as a transit point. Sarajevo is interesting, but accommodation can be relatively expensive for Bosnia. Enjoy! Regards |
