Hawaii camping?

Hello,

my wife and i are planning a trip to Hawaii in September. We would like
to travel by car and tend, do some island hopping.

Any recommendations related to camping in Hawaii?

That'd be fun. I'm sure it's done, but lemme say this - I didn't see
anything that looked like a campground on Oahu, Maui or Big Island
when I was there in the summer of 2005.

It doesn't mean there aren't any, if there are, they aren't obvious.
That is, no Jellystone parks or the like.
