a couple of killer theme parks

In the Orlando area you'll find two of the best --
Walt Disney World and Universal Studios.

Be aware that Disney World is actually several different
parks -- Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, Disney/
MGM Studios, plus some smaller areas such as their
water parks, Downtown Disney, etc. -- so it's important
to do a little research ahead of time to decide what you
want to see in the time available to you. Get a Disney
World guidebook from your library or bookstore, or visit
some Disney web sites.

Hi
Travellingto the USA in september next year.

I wanna goto New York and do some touristy things but my friend wants to
goto the beaches of Florida.

One thing we both wanna do is go to a couple of killer theme parks

Anyone recommend an area in Florida that has beaches but has a coupel of
theme parks close by (i.e somewhere you can go in a day and back)

Are these many large theme parks around the NY area? (i am guessing there
are no beaches?)

New York City is in itself a theme park. And it is all real. Of course,
if you prefer ersatz versions of life in the U.S., then Disneyworld it
must be. And if Disneyworld is not touristy, then what is?

For theme parks, there is more than Disneyworld near Orlando. I
think, though, that by definition a theme park is touristy.

St. Petersburg and Clearwater in Florida have nice beaches and Tampa is
a hop, skip and jump from St. Pete and has a couple of theme parks.
Busch Gardens and some kind of wild animal park -- others will correct

me
if I am wrong. And you could drive up the Coast to Tarpon Springs where
there are fake sponge divers and good Greek food. You'll have to have a
car in Florida to get around at all, but not in New York City.

How old do you have to be to rent cars? I will be 21 - but I aint too
confident about driving on the other side of the road (I live in the UK)

and
I probably wont understand all the road signs...so I dont really wanna

risk
it!

21 is the age.

It may not be the age. The car rental firm may have a different
idea as to the required age. Best to make specific inquiry.

Our road signs are in English.

But not UK English; some translation may be required.

The roads here are broad and
relatively easy to drive in. Try booking your car from the UK.

To do theme parks+beaches, you need to be in either:
-- Orlando for 'Disney World' or 'Universal Studios' and
close to Daytona Beach or Cocoa Beach on the Atlantic
(Cocoa is more laid back/quieter). You're also close to
the Kennedy Space Center, also... [OR]
-- Tampa or Clearwater Beach for 'Busch Gardens' & the
Gulf Coast beaches.

Many hotels near the theme parks offer free shuttle buses,
but you'll need a car to get to the beach. Enterprise Car
Rental has fairly cheap rates and will pick you up and drop
you off at your hotel, so you only need to rent for the day.
They rent to 21 yr. olds. http://www.enterprise.com

I recommend Orlando & Disney for your best theme park.
There are non-stop flights between London & Orlando, and
using the "Bee-Line Expressway," its only about a 50-min.
straight-line drive to the coast on a 4-lane, limited-access
toll-road. Petrol is relatively cheap in the States. [R]

Speed limits may be the most obvious one, as ours is in miles and yours is
in KM.

New Jersey is across the Hudson River from NYC. Six Flags Great Adventure in
Jackson NJ is probably about 1 hour from NYC. There should be direct buses
available from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan

..Whats in NY in terms of theme parks - i mean if i am in NY city how far is
NJ? How many theme parks are accessible?
