Default Booking cruises on new ships

I would be interested in hearing about your experiences with booking a
cruise on a ship that is in the process of being built and and will
not be ready for a year or more. I know of people who had booked a
cruise, the ship was not ready on time, and they received a refund of
their money PLUS a free cruise when the ship was ready or on another
ship. I cannot find any place that actually gives the details of what
would happen if the ship is not ready. I imagine this may vary by
cruise lines. Also, is there some website that you can actually
follow the progress of a new ship as it is being built. I am
particularly interested the Celebrity ships. Thanks for your input.

We booked the third cruise on the Carnival Freedom ... the only
problem was finding a picture as my background awaiting the cruise to
happen ... Since this was a return to the same port
(Civitavecchia) ... The worst case scenario was having to spend 2
weeks in Italy ... All sailings went without a hitch ... even the
inaugural one ...

We are booked on the second cruise of the Norwegian Jade ... but this
is only a renovation so I have no real fear of it not being ready ...
That is transatlantic ... so we'd have to scramble a flight to
Barcelona so as not to lose out return airfare ...

I had asked my TA about this since we booked a back to back on the new
Eurodam (HAL) for Europe next July. It's their first and second cruises.
She said that most of the new ships were coming out on time so not to
worry. I've never booked so far in advance, we booked last July, nor
have we ever done an inaugural cruise. Does anyone know what HAL does if
it's not on time?
