Press Release by NICDS

Nepal Integrated Conservation and Development society (NICDS)
organised a half day interaction programme on an issue Food for Future
Security at Centre for Constitutional Dialogue (CCD) Hall dated 29th
December, 2010. There were around 30 participants in the programme and
the participants were food technologists, teachers and students
representing different educational institutions; and the
representative from Plan Nepal, an INGO.
The Program Officer of the organisation Mr. Bhagiman Nembang described
the status of the country in the sector of food and agricultural
production. He further added the role of youth in maintaining food
security and overall development of the nation. He spoke on the food
right and with the example of other country he described the status of
Nepalese system of agriculture.
The President of NICDS and speaker of the programme, Mr. Dipendra
Adhikari presented a PowerPoint on food security and statistical data
of today’s food status in the country. Also he focused on the
necessary steps for food security.
The table was left for open discussion to get distinct ways for
securing food. Hem Poudyal, Livelihood and Micro Finance coordinator
of Plan Nepal, gave valuable suggestions and ways that can meet food
security in the country. He also focused on the activities of Plan
Nepal. One of the food technologists addressed the impact of
globalization, culture paralyzing the national food security of Nepal
and the need of preservation of traditional and indigenous food for
the food security. Also she focused on women oriented technology in
production.
The programme was hosted by Nisha Subedi-volunteer of NICDS.
