I was in Addis a year ago. I brought ONLY Swedish 500-notes.

Went to the bank right on Meskel square near the post office. Upstairs
is the exchange department. They were nice and I had no problems at all
to cash my cash.

Also in the Arrivals hall at the airport is a bank office - I cashed
some at my arrival - no problems at all.

Rate is much higher than plastic card.

Still cash is king!
