My last cruise on the Rotterdam in 8/03 I was permitted to purchase liquor
for in cabin consumption by paying a 10% surcharge. Has this policy been changed? |

Is the carry on rule really enforced? Do they actually search your luggage
and take bottles that they find? How rude! Harvey "0 O" wrote in message ... THE NEW HAL RULES ______ bring ONLY champaign and wine can be carried aboard =/ can NOT buy aboard for USE on board |

The new HAL rules probably keep cruise price lower and allow those who
wish to drink liquor to pay their share ? |

You have got to be kidding!! C O M P E T I T I O N keeps cruise
prices low. However, the new policy may very slightly increase Carnival Corp's bottom line On Wed, 12 May 2004 10:49:49 -0400, (0 O) wrote: The new HAL rules probably keep cruise price lower and allow those who wish to drink liquor to pay their share ? |

It also alienates passengers. I have never brought spirits or beer aboard a ship to consume during the cruise. However, I will not cruise on lines that inspect passengers bags for these items; I don't care to submit to the indignity of being searched. Instead, I will pay more money to sail on another cruise line. Why is that Carnival now find it necessary to have such a policy? It was not necessary a year ago. Ten years ago, hardly any line did that. When I was on a cruise in 1968 not only did the lines allow you to buy alcohol in St. Thomas, one of their staff would carry it onboard for you and deliver it to your cabin. |

Hi, FWIW, all cruise lines are searching passenger bags, checked and hand. They are not all confiscated liquor but they are searching the bags. Hi Kevin, You are mistaken as I have witnessed it with my own eyes. Anyone that sails from LA can see the screening area out on the cruise pier. You can see the screening machines and see them screening each and every bag before it is cleared to the ship. I have also watched the bomb sniffing dogs check not only the bags but all of the stores (food stuffs) before it is loaded. Yes, the cruise lines are quite serious about checking baggage. That being said, liquor is the least of their concerns in checked bags. I have never heard of them confiscating liquor from a checked bag. I hope someone will tell us if they have seen this happen. The cruise lines are checking hand carried bags as many on r.t.cruises can attest. Some cruise lines confiscate liquor and some don't. It often seems inconsistent whether a cruise line will or won't confiscate the liquor. Best regards, Ray LIGHTHOUSE TRAVEL 800-719-9917 or 805-566-3905 http://www.lighthousetravel.com |
