YES - TAKE THE TRAIN
Around 5 hours, at 60 euros full fare you probably save money because you're
not faced with journeys to and from airports at either end.

There is not such a thing. Madrid-Barcelona flights have been the milk
cow of Iberia for years, but now that there is a wider choice of
companies periodically Iberia, Spanair and Air Europa make offers for
as low as 20 eu.- one-way. 49 eu.- round etc.

Book in advance if you have the chance (all of three websites are
comprehensive) and compare their prices for the same day (Iberia has a
service in either way every 30 minutes and the rest have at least 4-5
daily flights).

If you fancy overnight trains there is also one running 23:00 - 8:00 in
both directions while day trains make the trip in around 5 hrs.

I'll bite my tongue on that. Check www.vueling.com they have 1 or 2
daily flights Mad-Bcn.

Usual considerations about low cost airlines apply here, too.
