Default malaria in Thailand

Hello,
I'll travel this july around Thailand.
I'd like to know the risk of malaria in the country, specially in Khao Yai
NP, Chiang Mai and Mae Hong Son.
Many Thanks

The usual advice from Australia is that away from major cities and holiday
resorts (Bkk, Chiang Mai, Phuket, Samui etc) there is a risk of malaria and
you should protect yourself, either with drugs or by covering yourself and
using insect repellent.

In practive, few or no tourists have ever contracted malaria in
Thailand. So unless you are going far from the beaten track you are
unlikely to need the drugs.

Well, if nobody ever catch the bug why to take malaria medication under any
circumstance. By the way, a couple of days ago the Thai dailies reported on
a malaria outbreak in the Chumpon region where hundreds of people have
become ill.
