Default CA car rental fees

The CA fees for Hertz (probably all at the airport) are really

Additional Items (included in Total Charges)
Tax 18.60 %
18% tax !??

... not bad compared to some other places. There was a
USA Today article on highest rental car taxes at airports and I think
Houston was the "winner" with 73% tax.

PHX is bad too

Out of towners don't vote locally, so they're a natural for high taxes.

Doubtful. Tourism in my home town is up significantly after heavy taxes
were placed on rental cars. This is in part because the taxes help pay
for some attractions that tourists enjoy. The taxes on a rental car are
also usually in such small proportion to the overall cost of a vacation
that most people don't even bat an eye over them.

No, you just get ****ed about them. Avis had a sign about the excess tax in
Houston to pay for a football stadium. Easy to rip off visitors. Since I
was there on business, the company was extorted.

Far better YOU pay that the tax for the stadium than millions of residents
who NEVER use the effing stadium.

Too ****ing bad. I'd MUCH rather a bunch of strangers pay a bunch of
nuisance taxes than us homeowning residents.

fees: http://www.elliott.org/archives/2007...s_for_stee.php
