Car travel in European cities will be replaced by Personal Rapid
Transit vehicles in 2008. Cars will disappear from European cities.

2008? I am already driving a personal rapid transit vehicle now.
Except that here I guess I call it a car.

So you are forecasting that cars will be renamed Personal Rapid
Transit Vehicles - Cool

"A rose by any other name...." What's the difference? (One

Poor Joey. A few attempts to demo robot cars in a very restricted
environment and suddenly cars will disappear.

Did you notice that Raleigh has abandoned its car free downtown street
and opened it up to automobiles. Car free concepts choked off the
downtown area instead of revitalizing it.

To the transit nuts Personal Rapid Transit vehicles are publicly owned
vehicles which are robot controlled. You call one to you, enter the
destination, and they deliver you.

The demonstration is a small boondoggle to show that they can work in a
very limited situation. Of course it will take several years to get
anything working in any environment.

From the pictures it looks as though they will be limited to dedicated
rail ways. I wonder how many folks will be carried each day?

What a stupid idea. Mass transit of this type is done by trains, not
car thingies.

They are trying to fight the personal convenience factor in transit. I
suspect that they recognize that the future for trains is limited in
many areas.

If they can reduce the personnel costs for transit they feel that the
future is brighter.

Oh, and "Joey" or "Snoopy" or whatever you're calling yourself,
do go somewhere and die, preferably slowly and in agony.
