Hello, Snoopy!

What's the evidence? As the Duke of Wellington said, "If you can believe that, you can believe anything." A few attempts to demo robot cars in a very restricted environment and suddenly cars will disappear. Did you notice that Raleigh has abandoned its car free downtown street and opened it up to automobiles. Car free concepts choked off the downtown area instead of revitalizing it. |

(One is "double speak" for the other!) To the transit nuts Personal Rapid Transit vehicles are publicly owned vehicles which are robot controlled. You call one to you, enter the destination, and they deliver you. The demonstration is a small boondoggle to show that they can work in a very limited situation. Of course it will take several years to get anything working in any environment. From the pictures it looks as though they will be limited to dedicated rail ways. I wonder how many folks will be carried each day? |

They are trying to fight the personal convenience factor in transit. I suspect that they recognize that the future for trains is limited in many areas. If they can reduce the personnel costs for transit they feel that the future is brighter. |
