It's been an inevitable problem since long before then. When it was
set up, there were many paying into the system for each beneficiary.
It will be about three before too long. The system is unsustainable as
it is currently structured.

Obviously the solution is worse health care.

How does that follow? The simplest first step is to raise the initial
eligibility age. Another easy one would be to make people who don't
really need it at all ineligible.

And abolish the "ceiling" for Social Security taxable wages! (Medicare
taxes are assessed on ALL earned income, but although the Social
Security taxable amount has risen considerably from the $9,400 it once
was, the tax is not assessed upon income over a specified amount.)

Britain Plans to Decentralize Health Care

By SARAH LYALL
Published: July 24, 2010

Perhaps the only consistent thing about Britain’s socialized health
care system is that it is in a perpetual state of flux, its structure
constantly changing as governments search for the elusive formula that
will deliver the best care for the cheapest price while costs and
demand escalate.

Keep in mind that the goal is to kill everyone off to save money. As
usual around here, the actual point in the requote is cut: "Obviously
the solution is worse health care."
