Default Opinions on SpringHill Suites by Marriott?

Hi,

Our family normally stays in one of the Marriott brand of hotels when
we travel. Just a habit and we have always had good luck with them. We
have stayed in full line Marriotts, we have also stayed at several of
their other "brands" of hotels including Residence Inn, Fairfield Inn,
Courtyard, and Renaissance Hotels. All with great luck.

NOW, we have always been able to tell the "level" of Marriott by the
name. Fairfield being the lowest, then courtyard, then Residence, then
Marriott then Renaissance. But, as we make plans this year we are
coming across new brands of Marriott hotels and have no idea how they
compare to the ones we are used to.

As we make plans to travel west we are coming across "SpringHill Suites
by Marriott". Ok... is that the same as a Residence Inn in room quality
since the rate is similar? We also are finding "TownePlace Suites by
Marriott" that seem to be the same thing as SpringHill.

Personally, I find it confusing and would be much happier if they had
ONE brand of suites hotel and one brand name for each level of hotel
and ended it there.

Can anyone tell us their experience with a SpringHill Suites hotel? How
about TownePlace? Why Marriott needs so many different brands escapes
us, but we'd like to have some idea of what we are getting when we
reserve at this new chains.

Thanks!
