James Smith is on New Oxford Street at Bloomsbury Street. Maybe that is what you are thinking of? See he http://www.james-smith.co.uk/map.htm Don donwiss at panix.com. I bought a sturdy folding umbrella at my local Supermarket for GBP £4, which is about US $7 or Eur ¤6. JohnT |

WHERE CAN I BUY AN UMBRELLA IN LONDON ?
Sooner or later you'll find yourself in Bergen, Norway. Wait until
then, and you'll be able to buy your umbrealla from a vending machine. In Milan on rain days you can buy umbrellas from extracommunitarian immigrants in every underground station. Bergen is the only place I have ever seen umbrella repair shops. Being so old to remember the years before 220 V and the operating systems before Unix and Gates, when I was a child in Milan there were people repairing umbrellas on the streets (and they weren't extracommunitarian). They went along with a characteristic cry which announced them : Ombrellaioooo Umbreleeeee ! -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------- is a newsreading account used by more persons to avoid unwanted spam. Anyone has an idea of prices in that range? I seem to recall my 3-stage Fulton to be around £12 some years ago. At this web site they have the 4-stage MicroLite for £15. http://www.globalgift.net/acsry/fulton_text.htm I would expect the 3-stage (MiniLite?) to be less. Don donwiss at panix.com. |

WHERE CAN I BUY AN UMBRELLA IN LONDON ?
Dan McLean wrote: There are literally thousands of shops in London that stock umbrella's, you can get fairly cheap ones in Woolworth's or dearer ones in Boot's (a very popular drug store with branches everywhere). But don't take one to Scotland with you, the strong winds destroy them fairly quickly. I have seen some advertised in travel catalogs in the U.S. which are supposed to be "wind-proof" - see: http://www.magellans.com/shopping/se...=18&Search.y=5 (you may have to cut and paste to get to the page). It's put out by London Fog, and is called the "Windefyer". Does anyone know whether it works or not? (It's rather pricey, but if you encounter rain with wind frequently, it might be worth it.) |
