Default Washington Post: Support for KADEK against Turkey - KADEK - the Kurdish freedom fighters.

"The United States may have the opportunity to right one of history's
most enduring wrongs by fostering the establishment of an independent
Kurdistan."

On the list of priorites for the US at the moment, do you truly think
creating Kurdistan is particularly high?

Washington Post: US may have the opportunity to establish a Kurdish
state

22/07/2003 KurdishMedia.com
London (KurdishMedia.com) 22 July 2003: The American daily Washington
Post stated today that the US may have the opportunity to establish an
independent Kurdistan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The problem is not the Kurds--the problem is Turkey.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"The United States may have the opportunity to right one of history's
most enduring wrongs by fostering the establishment of an independent
Kurdistan."

The paper appraised the Kurdish people's cooperation with the US
government. "The Kurdish region is prospering, a model of
cooperation," the paper stated.

"If the United States means anything it says about freedom,
self-determination and human rights, we must work toward security and
self-determination for the Kurds," the paper added.

"And the Kurds, especially, have been treated horribly. What would be
just in abetting their further oppression?"

Support for KADEK against Turkey

The paper terms the KADEK (formally known as the PKK) "Kurdish freedom
fighters".

"Turkey may be sending a division into Iraq -- Turkey has no business
in Iraq, whatsoever. Further, it is utterly wrong to allow Turkish
forces to approach Kurdish freedom fighters harbored in northern Iraq.
The problem is not the Kurds -- the problem is Turkey and its
often-brutal suppression of the Kurdish people confined within its
boundaries."

What should happen to the Middle East?

"The Middle East does not need cosmetic surgery, but deep surgery. The
Kurds have earned their freedom. The USA should support their
legitimate aspirations."

"The Middle East -- and much of the world -- suffers from bad borders
drawn by European imperialists. Some of those borders must change."
