(Besides, they usually START OUT "on topic" - its just that threads on all newsgroups tend to mutate, the longer they continue.) If it bothers you, just ignore any thread, once you realize it's no longer on topic. (Of course, you may miss some enjoyable irrelevancies that way, also, but it's your choice.) And almost no one changes the subject line. Mainly because they assume (as do I) that people following the discussion may not follow the change of suject title. The title is merely a label for the thread, and serves little other purpose. Even when looking up old posts with Google, you don't need to specify the subject. Then folks shouldn't complain about hijacking of threads. |

(Of course, you may miss some enjoyable irrelevancies that way, also, but it's your choice.) And almost no one changes the subject line. trouble is, you have to anticipate the change is a major one or you just get lots of one post threads. You also have to get in right at the start or you just have a duplicate thread. Also many who download selectively never pick up the new thread. -- Mike Reid Wasdale-Thames path-London-Photos "http://www.fellwalk.co.uk" -- you can email us@ this site Eat-walk-Spain "http://www.fell-walker.co.uk" -- dontuse@ all, it's a spamtrap |
