I will be meeting my boyfriend in NYC this fall and I am looking for a restaurant to have a romantic meal. I have read about several including Tavern on the Green, River Cafe in Brooklyn, Cirque 2000, etc. I had a Restaurant Week lunch a few years ago at River Cafe and loved it, and the view there is breathtaking. Opinions about New York restaurants from a few years ago aren't worth much, but recent posts on www.egullet.org (which site you should visit) have been positive on River Cafe. I think it would be fair to say that Tavern on the Green has been overwhelmingly panned there, as has One if by Land, Two if by Sea (perhaps even more so), which another poster in this thread recommended. Terrace in the Sky, also mentioned in this thread, has gotten positive remarks at eGullet.org. 11 Madison Park, which another poster mentioned, is a restaurant I've been to twice within the past few months. It's got a beautiful room with high ceilings, the food is really pleasant there - it's a really pleasant place, overall. The place that most impressed me during Restaurant Week, though, was Union Pacific. You can find my report (with more or less out-of-focus pictures because it's a rather dark though by no means pitch black room) he http://forums.egullet.org/index.php?...dpost&p=646243 Management has certainly made an effort to produce a romantic ambience at Union Pacific, though an idiosyncratic one, with unusual decor. They all seem to be very nice, however I've heard that some restaurants in NY are becoming too touristy. Tavern on the Green has always been touristy. I am not too concerned with the price; I'm willing to splurge for a night. Does anyone know about any of these restaurants or know of one that is very romantic and might not be in a guidebook? Thanks for your help! Not in a guidebook? Hmmm...do you want to go to a smaller restaurant like August, in the Village? A lot of what goes into making something romantic is you and your boyfriend. Maybe you'd rather go to a smaller, more intimate restaurant. I don't know, because I don't know you. Michael If you would like to send a private email to me, please take out the TRASH, so to speak. Please do not email me something which you also posted. |
