Default Amelia to St. Augustine - best route?

What is the best way to get from Amelia Island to St. Augustine? The
highway route through Jacksonville looks to be the fastest way, but
the route down A1A looks to be more scenic. How long does the A1A
route take? Isn't there a ferry you have to take across the river, or
is there a bridge to cross somewhere?

A1A is scenic for about 20 minutes (5 miles) after which you will get on
I-95....... g

A1A and scenic are rarely used in the same breath. To some extent
scenic and roads are rarely used in the same sentence in Florida.
A1A tends to be highly developed. I'm not saying you won't find
SOME areas where it has unobstructed views of the ocean, or
relatively rural regions. It's just not all that much of it.
Truth is US1 is probably a might better. It's inland by alot over
much of it's stretches and passes through less developed areas,
although much of it is also developed. But the truth is that it
follows I-95 alot over that stretch and you'll see much the
same thing going along there, although at a larger distance and
higher speed.
